Welcome

Welcome to the Catholic Diocese of Masvingo, a community of faith, hope, and service in the southern part of Zimbabwe. Erected on 9 February 1999 from the Diocese of Gweru, our Diocese has grown steadily in its mission of evangelization, education, and uplifting communities. The Diocese spans over 70,000 km², covering eight districts—Beitbridge, Bikita, Chivi, Gutu, Masvingo, Mwenezi, Zaka, and Chiredzi—and is organized into nine deaneries. The Catholic Diocese of Masvingo serves a population of close to 2 million people within its territory, among whom approximately 257,000 are Catholic faithful, while reaching out pastorally to all through evangelization, education, and social development.

We give thanks for the leadership of our founding bishop, Rt. Rev. Michael Dixon Bhasera, who shepherded the Diocese from its birth until 2022. Today, under the pastoral care of Rt. Rev. Raymond Tapiwa Mupandasekwa, C.SS.R., appointed by Pope Francis and installed on 9 December 2023, we continue to walk together as one family in Christ. As we celebrated our Silver Jubilee in 2024, we remain committed to building a strong and vibrant Church rooted in the Gospel values.
